Creating a Model Portfolio

In this guide, you will learn how to create a model portfolio and record a justification on a product level. You will also learn how to connect a model to a client's profile and complete pre-trade Disclosures

Notes:

  • It is beneficial to note that there are multiple reasons for utilizing the models tab.
    1. The first is to allow you to consolidate commonly recommended funds within one view which increases efficiencies when completing comparisons for multiple products.
    2. The second is it will provide an interim solution for completing comparison requirements for a pooled fund containing mutual funds and ETFs.
    3. The last is for creating a portfolio representative of specific models such as growth models or balanced models.

Creating a Model Portfolio and Adding Justification Notes

Process:

  1. Begin by selecting the Models tab followed by Create model.
  2. In the search bar, begin locating your commonly recommended positions. To add a fund, simply click on the fund in the dropdown.
  3. If you have saved products as Favorites in the past, clicking on the Favorite tab will show these funds separately. Once you have selected your funds, click anywhere in the main area to close the search bar.
  4. In order to be able to save the model, you will need to assign a weighting to each holding. If you are using this feature to log your commonly recommended products, it doesn't matter what weighting you choose, so to keep it quick and simple, select Allocate Evenly.
  5. To remove a position, hover over the fund to the right of the screen and a remove button will appear.
  6. We can see here that the circles beside these positions are grey which means the comparison has not been completed. To complete the comparison, click on the arrows beside each position.
  7. A popup will appear with the two additional holdings. Click close and proceed with repeating this step for each position within your model that has a grey checkmark.
  8. You will now see a green checkmark beside all positions which means your comparison has been completed.
  9. To name your model, click on the New Model heading and rename your list of products. Then click Save Portfolio.
  10. Your list or model will now be saved for future viewing under the My Models subtab. You may also click on the three dots to edit or delete.
  11. To record your justification notes, click on the My models subtab under the Models tab.
  12. Select your model followed by Compare.
  13. At the top of the screen, click on the Suitability icon.
  14. On a product level, the focus will solely be on questions one and two. For further guidance on the questions within the Suitability tab, please refer to our video, Completing a Comparison and Justification on a Single Product. There are number of different reasons why you may prefer your product over the others, for additional commonly recorded justification reasons, please refer to our FAQ. For models or saved lists, a best practice is to add the date above your note. As this is not a read only file, if additional notes are added in the future, it will override the logged date of the initial note.
  15. Once you have completed recording your note and selection, ensure to click Submit.
  16. Your lists of products or models can be viewed under the Comparisons tab, under All.
  17. Select your desired list or model and then scroll down on this page and click on the arrows to expand your model.
  18. We can see here that each position shows a green verified checkmark which means a comparison has been completed.
  19. Scroll back up to the top of the page and click on the Suitability icon to review your justification notes and question selection on a product level.

Connecting a Model to a Client's Profile and Completing Pre-Trade Disclosures

Process:

  1. To link a model to a client, begin by clicking on the My Models subtab within the Models tab.
  2. Select your desired comparison followed by Compare.
  3. Proceed by naming your Comparison, then click Save.  On the popup, you can then select and save the model to your contact.
  4. To record your pre-trade disclosures, click on the Suitability icon.
  5. Proceed by making your selections and recording your notes. As previously mentioned, you are not required complete questions one and two again since they were completed at the product level.
  6. Once completed, click submit.
  7. To retrieve your saved comparison and pre-trade disclosures at a future date, click on the Assigned subtab under the Comparisons tab. Here you may select from the list or search by client name to retrieve all models linked to a client.
  8. Once a model has been selected, you may click on the Suitability icon to review your selections and notes.
  9. You may also review your comparison by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking on the expand arrows.
