In this guide, you will learn how to complete a comparison on a single product as well as adding a justification note.

To complete comparisons for multiple products within a single view, please review our "Creating a Model Portfolio" article.

You will also learn how to link a comparison to a client's profile and complete pre-trade disclosures.

Completing a Comparison

Process:

  1. Begin by clicking on the Search tab.
  2. In the search bar, you may type the fund code or fund name and then click Search Funds.
  3. Click on the fund to select it, here, you may also click on the star to save the product as a favorite. To learn more about the benefits of saving a product as a favorite, please review the article, "Navigating Through CapIntel's Tabs and Subtabs”.
  4. Proceed by clicking on Compare Alternatives.
  5. A pop-up will appear confirming your comparison was successful.
  6. You will also see that the checkmark beside the fund will turn to a solid green circle. This signifies that the comparison has been completed.
  7. There are a number of metrics that are used to compare the product, such as: the same product type, the same series, different manufacturers, as well as risk and classification.
  8. Next, click on Compare All.
  9. By scrolling to the bottom of the screen, you will see the three funds along with an extensive list of additional metrics. This will allow you to view other details about the funds and perform your KYP requirements on the fund you are recommending.

Note:

  • It's a benefit to note that not only is the comparison for your fund completed, but it is also considered completed for the two comparable products. If either of the two compared funds were to be recommended or purchased, provided there were no material changes to the products, a comparison for either of these products would not be required.

Completing a Justification

Note:

  • Once a comparison is done, you are now required to record a note justifying your selection of your preferred product over the comparable products.

Process:

  1. To document your justification, click on the Compliance subtab within the Comparisons tab and locate your position.
  2. On this screen, click on the Suitability tab.
  3. Here you will find a total of 7 questions with the last being a space to record any general notes. Questions three through six relate to consideration of reasonable range of alternatives and pre-trade disclosures, which would apply on a client level. However, when completing a comparison on a product level, the focus is on entering your justification in the space provided in question one as well as selecting the applicable choice in question two. There are number of different reasons why you may prefer your product over the others, an example of a justification could be Manager Experience. For additional commonly recorded justification reasons, please refer to our FAQ.
  4. Once completed, please ensure to click Submit.
